Obituary of Normand Poulin
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Normand Poulin who passed away peacefully at home, at the age of 76.
Norm was born in 1946, in the village of Saint-Fabien-de-Panet, Québec to his loving parents the late Henri Poulin and the late Cécile (née Brisson). He will be greatly missed by his five younger siblings and their families; Gaëtan (Carole), Phil (Evelyn), Ronald (late Pam), Hervé (Lorraine) and Jocelyne (Pat). The family moved to Welland in 1961, where Norm attended École Sacré-Coeur and later worked at Atlas Steels.
He excelled at sports, especially hockey, but it was broomball that changed his life. There he met Rachel Portelance. He quickly became part of the Portelance family which includes; late Réal (late Juliette), Jeanne (late Jim), Marcel (Jo Anne) and Hector (Rosanne). Together they had three deeply loved children; Roxane Poulin (Graeme Clinton), Sonya Trumble (Doug) and Matthieu Poulin. They shared a wonderful life together until Rachel’s passing in 1999. He was the proud grandfather of Cole and Adam Clinton, Grant and Claire Trumble, and uncle to several nieces and nephews.
Norm’s greatest love after Rachel and his family was golf. He played weekly and was a well-liked member of the Cardinal Lakes Golf Club. He will be remembered for his big laugh and generosity. The many wooden treasures he crafted throughout his life will be cherished by his family and friends forever.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 827 East Main Street, Welland on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at the Parish Community of St. Kevin, 303 Niagara Street, Welland at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if desired donations to Wellspring Niagara or Welland Public Library will be greatly appreciated by the family.
