Obituary of Dorothy Hawken
Port Colborne - Dorothy Alice Stewart Simpson Hawken passed in her sleep on June 30, 2016, uplifted in love by her family. She was at peace knowing that she would be welcomed into the arms of her Heavenly Father.
Born in 1928 in Haileybury, ON, Dorothy was the daughter of Eleanor (née Gibb) and John Stewart. She had a creative spirit and excelled at cooking, gardening, painting, crocheting, and sewing - all while raising her large family in Pamour, Murdochville (QC), and Burlington. She lived her final years in Welland.
She is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Harry James Hawken; by her children: Stewart Simpson (Clara Lafontaine), Douglas Simpson (Cory Murray), Patricia Simpson (Ross Macdonald), Harvey Simpson, Andrew Simpson (Mary Ann Paulen), Wynn Anne Sibbald (Stephen), and Christine Willoughby (Robert); by grandchildren: Jamie, Pierre, Doran, Gregory, Jordan, Jacquelyne, Patrick, Melissa, Diane, Laura, Katharine, Peter, Emily, Brian, Jennifer, and Robert; and by her great-grandchildren Vaden, Zander, Rachel, Claudia, Drew, and James; by her sisters Ethel Streight and Vera Bramer (Doug); by her sisters-in-law Evelyn Simpson and Winnifred (Winkie) Simpson; by her step-children Bill Hawken (Jacquie), Shirley Schwartz (Al), Jamie Hawken (Beth), and Betty Goodkey (Jerry), and their children and grandchildren; and by cherished friends Angie Neelin and Jacqui Penson. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Francis "Frank" Clarry Simpson, her sister Isabel Cannell, and her brother Gordon Stewart.
Funeral Details
A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held on Monday, July 4, 2016. A visitation with the family will be begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Rice Road Community Church, 305 Rice Road, Welland, Ontario. A service will be held at 12:30 p.m., followed by light refreshments.
