Obituary of Ernest Thrower
It is with great sadness we announce the death of Ernest Thrower on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at the age of 90, at the Greater Niagara General Hospital. Beloved husband of Olga (née Zarrelly) for 67 years. Loving father of Donald (JoAnne), David (Sandra), and Robert (Tina) Thrower. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren; Bradley, Kailey (Chris) Richards, Alexander and Eric Thrower & 3 great-grandchildren; Brady, Charlotte Thrower, and Emma Richards. Predeceased by his parents William and Margaret (née Emms) Thrower and his 12 siblings.
Ernie worked many jobs during his life including bread delivery, mining, and 36 years of service at Atlas Steels. He worked tirelessly around the house and was able to fix just about anything.
He was a fan of baseball and hockey and was often in the stands cheering on his sons as they played. He followed the Toronto Maple Leafs, rarely missing their Wednesday and Saturday night games. As an avid Cleveland baseball fan, many evenings were spent listening to their game day radio broadcasts. His vegetable garden was a source of great pride and, along with Olga, they preserved much of what they grew. Political debates with family and friends were always welcomed.
Ernie will be sadly missed, and always remembered for the love of his family and his sense of humour. He leaves many wonderful memories for his family to cherish.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE. Following Ernest’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private burial will take place at a later date. As expression of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or The War Amps will be greatly appreciated by the family.
