Obituary of Mary Lou Cugalj
CUGALJ (nee Secord), Mary Lou – Passed away suddenly yet peacefully on January 16, 2023 at the age of 75. She is now reunited with her beloved husband of 47 years, Dusan, who passed away in 2019. Mary Lou was a loving mother and will be sadly missed by her children Lucas (April) and Julie (Sean). She cherished her time with and will be greatly missed by grandchildren Cassandra, Sabrina and Alex. She was a dear aunt to Rade (Milica) Putnik. Mary Lou also cherished being a special grandma to Michael Putnik and Jordan Paul. She is survived by her brothers Allan and Joseph Secord (Gail), sister Jean Vandervlist and sister-in-law Marie Secord. She is predeceased by her parents David and Mary Secord, and brothers David and Robert.
Mary Lou was always there ready to help a friend or family member in need. She was proudly a two-time breast cancer survivor. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and all family and friends, both in Canada and abroad.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 827 East Main Street, Welland, on Friday, January 20, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral will be on Saturday, January 21, at 11 a.m. in the Welland Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, 10672 Lakeshore Rd., Wainfleet. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
