Obituary of Margot Dubois
Marguerite (Margot) Dubois, née Castonguay
31 juillet 1925 – 4 octobre 2022
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Margot Dubois, née Castonguay, on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.
Margot was born in Hawksbury, ON on July 31, 1925, to Marie (Brazeau) and Jean-Baptiste Castonguay to a family of eleven brothers and sisters. In 1949, she qualified as a registered nurse and that same year married Jacques Dubois, a young doctor. Together, during the first years of their marriage, they worked at establishing Jacques’ medical practice in Welland, before the birth of their seven children over ten years. During the following years, Margot took charge of managing the family, all the while being involved with the parish and the community. With Jacques, during retirement, they traveled and visited with their children now living in various parts of the country. Margot was an avid reader, a perceptive literary critique, an unrivalled hostess and a creative artisan. Her colourful and original quilts are now being handed over to the next generation.
During her twilight years, Margot suffered from the progressive isolation of dementia. Her family were witness to the gradual loss of her unique sense of humour and quick wit, her memories and her love of books and music. She was predeceased by her beloved life partner, Jacques (2015) and her grand-son Conrad (2019). She is mourned by her children, Lise (Pierre Bériault), France, Odette (Yvan Tanguay), Pierre-Paul (Louise Dupuis), Diane (Tom Martin), Jacques-Yves and Jean-Marc (Shari); her grand-children, Xavier (Kelly Gordon) and Antoine (Annie Lacombe) Bériault, Gabrielle (Simon Dupuis), Jean-Charles and François Tanguay, Roxanne (Graham Cox) and Cédric (Margot Dudgeon) Dubois, Paul (Isabelle), Luc (Jennifer) and Daniel (Hillary) Martin, and Alex (Kate Jervis) Dubois; and her great grand-children, Melody, Elise, Hugo, Reegan, Brooke, Édouard, Charles and Simon.
