Obituary of Antonio Sdao
Antonio Sdao, beloved husband of Maria Grazia of 49 years and cherished daddy to his three girls; Catherine (Jay), Cinzia (Jerome) and Stefania (Femi). Proud nonno of Chiara, Lucas and Kemi. Antonio left this world peacefully in the early morning on October 2, 2022, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's.
Antonio was born in Mangone, Italy in 1942. Loved by his parents the late Ruggerio & Caterina Sdao. He was the youngest of four and was often characterized as the mischievous one getting into all sorts of trouble. Adored by his big brother the late Frank (Franca) and sisters Rosina (late Mario) and Maria (Carmelo). He will be missed by his brothers-in-law Mauro (Maria) and Joe (Tina), and sister-in-law Enza (Enrico). Predeceased by his in-laws Ferdinando & Maria Corona.
At the age of sixteen he immigrated to Canada and with his family settled in Welland. The first in his family to attend university, he completed his undergraduate degree in languages at McMaster University and his Master's in Education at the University of Toronto. He went on to have a successful, twenty-seven-year teaching career with the DSBN.
Antonio grew up surrounded by his large family. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Family was everything to him and he always reminded those around him of that sentiment. He devoted his life to his family; adored his wife, whom he called his queen, his three daughters, who were his princesses, and his grandchildren that were his joy.
Antonio loved being out in the community. Many would recognize him for his big smile and friendly hellos. He loved to visit the grocery stores, often buying groceries for his sister's and brother, helping strangers pick out the biggest watermelons and finding the best deals. He loved going to the gym every morning and taking long walks in the neighborhood. Even after his diagnosis he participated in many programs to keep fit and stay strong. He never gave up!
