Obituary of Lucille Doucet

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful death of our beloved tante Lucille, in her 89th year on March 9, 2022, at Foyer Richelieu. She departed us with grace and dignity to be reunited with Marcel, her late husband who passed away August 23, 2021, also at Foyer Richelieu.

Born, Lucille Bellefleur, in Lac Mégantic, June 25, 1932, she was the youngest of four daughters. Lucille worked at Wabasso Cotton Mills with her mom Alice, her dad Georges and her sisters, Yolande, Thérèse and Marie-Andrée. She absolutely adored her younger adopted brother Gilles, looking over him and always trying to keep him out of trouble. After marrying Marcel Doucet in 1952, they relocated to Quebec for 14 years, annually enjoying the activities and spirit of the Carnaval de Quebec. They then moved to Owen Sound for two years, then to Port Elgin followed by Stratford where she enjoyed attending plays at the Stratford Festival with her dear friend Gladys. When Marcel retired in 1994, Lucille’s mind was made up! They were moving back home! They moved back to Welland and settled in a brand-new home on Madison Court.

Her favorite pastimes included: needlepoint, painting, creating original scrapbooks, line dancing to Western music, bowling, and volunteering at Club Richelieu for special events. Never a chef, she had mastered the ultimate grilled cheese while sipping a bowl of Campbell’s tomato or chicken noodle soup. However, more than anything else, she was famous for her “spaghetti grattiné” which we all savored. A member of the Club Renaissance with her husband, they both delighted in partaking in dances, short trips, playing euchre but PLEASE “NEVER BINGO”.

She will be sadly missed by all her devoted nieces and nephews who loved and doted on her. Kind and warm acknowledgements to all the staff and personnel at Foyer Richelieu Welland for their kind and compassionate care.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE 827 East Main Street, Welland. In accordance with Lucille’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private Celebration of Life will take place at a future date. As an expression of sympathy donations to Fonds Foyer Richelieu, 655 Tanguay Ave, Welland, ON, L3B 6A1 would be greatly appreciated by the family.
