Obituary of Dionisio Riolino
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our wonderful father and Nonno; Dionisio Riolino; who passed away one day after his 94th birthday, January 21 2021 at the Welland Hospital from Covid 19. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Angela Riolino in 2009; he leaves his daughters, Yole Pastirik (David), Lucy Smith (Kevin) and his son, Basil Riolino (Sheila) as well as his grandchildren, Andrea (Steve Sperling), Robert, Alicia (Justis Krar), Julianna (Matthew Kuester), Marissa, Shawn and Jessica as well as his sister Noemi Pennels (Michael) to mourn his loss and keep his memory alive. He was also predeceased by brothers Pietro, Emelio, Rino, Antonio, and sisters Giovanina, Guiseppina, Margherita and Angelina.
Born in 1927 in San Giorgio della Richinvelda, Pordenone, Italy; he immigrated to Canada in 1950; marrying his wife, Angela in 1952. A devoted family man, he lived his life for others, prioritizing his wife and family above all else. He worked as an inspector at Union Carbide, before retiring in 1987 after 37 years of service. After retiring, he travelled around Canada, the US and back to Italy. A proud Canadian, he would always say how Canada was the best country to live in. He was a simple man who didn’t like any fuss or stories. He enjoyed a good meal with family, puttering around his home, caring for his garden (being a master at ethical squirrel catching) and watching the hockey game as well as Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. These were simple rituals that brought him comfort and joy. Several years ago, he moved to Lookout Ridge Retirement Home and had grown to love it there. In his last year, he encountered several illnesses that left him vulnerable to COVID-19. He was ready to be reunited with Nonna and we pray that they have had a wonderful reunion in heaven. We would like to thank the front-line workers for their skill, dedication, and compassion throughout our father’s illness. Thank you to Dr. D. Heywood and Dr. K. Habdank for your care.
