Obituary of Peter Wilhelmson
Peter Christian Wilhelmson passed away at home at the age of 80 on June 15, 2017. Although not afraid of dying, he just didn’t want to go, so says his memorial bench. Peter is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anita Pilon-Wilhelmson, son Michael (Leanne Ross), daughter Christianne (John Webber), and grandchildren Julian, Morgan, Camille, Juliet and Elizabeth. He is also survived by his brothers Eric and Jon (Glenda Davies), nieces, nephew and beloved pets. Peter was born in Toronto to Marius and Elly Wilhelmson. He graduated from U of T in 1962 and set off for Fort William to teach at Westgate Secondary. Starting at the school that September was Anita Pilon, and 3 months later they were engaged. In 1967, they moved to St Catharines with two young children in tow, where he would teach History at St Catharines Collegiate until his retirement in 1994. On his 10 acre woodlot in Fenwick he found peace and contentment. Peter continued to enjoy history, traveling around the world, theatre, his red truck and learning to fly. He volunteered his time extensively with the Welland District SPCA, Meals on Wheels and the Welland Seniors Centre. Special thanks to Dr M. Levesque, Dr Dooler and the Hospice Niagara South Team, the Paramed and personal care staff, and too many others to mention. Celebration of Life will take place on July 16th from 1 – 4 pm at the Riverstone Event Centre in Welland. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Welland District SPCA, Donkey Sanctuary of Canada or the One Foundation.
