Obituary of Deacon Gérard Demers

Obituary It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Rev. Deacon Gérard Demers at the Welland Hospital on August 25, 2018 at the age of 74. Loyal husband of Denise (née Paillé). Loving father of Jonathan (Jacqueline Rosa), Jocelyne (Tommy Tessier), and Catherine Demers (Rick Pascal). He will be forever in the hearts of his grandchildren; Madeleine and Lyam Tessier. Dear brother of Jeanette (the late Gerry Marcoux) and Maurice Demers (the late Mary). He will be missed by his brothers and sisters-in-law; Pauline Chouinard, Ed Beni, Monique (Philippe Labrèche), Marcel (Lise), Soeur Lucille Paillé, Suzanne Paillé, Diane (Bert Lambert), Lionel (Wanita), Jean-Marie (Claudette), Thérèse (Richard Raymond), Jocelyne (Lorne Sidey), Luc (Andrea), Marie (Raymond Perreault), Julie (Dave Stortz) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Ernest and Rose (née Beaudoin) Demers, his brothers; Olivier and Laurent Demers, his sister Marguerite Beni and his brothers-in-law; René, Raymond and Alain Paillé. Gérard had a passion for serving his community and was devoted to his faith. A minister for several churches including; Paroisse Sacré Coeur and Sts. Peter and Paul. He also conducted chapel services for the residences at Woodlands of Sunset and Rapelje Lodge and a 4th degree member of the Chevaliers de Colomb, Père Dion Lafrenière. He was a very caring and compassionate person, and always put the needs of others before his own. His gentle and soothing approach led him to be called upon to officiate weddings, baptisms and funerals in which he took great pride. A very descriptive and great story teller, he was able to command anyone’s attention when delivering his services. He will be missed significantly by those who had the pleasure of knowing him. The family would like to invite their relatives and friends to the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, 827 East Main St., Welland on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 from 1-3 and 5-8 p.m. Vigil prayers will begin at 8p.m. A bilingual Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Paroisse Sacré-Coeur at 11a.m. Interment will take place at a later date.
