Obituary of Vittorio Falvo
Vittorio Falvo (November 14, 1934 - December 10, 2024)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vittorio Falvo. He died peacefully, age 90, at Woodlands of Sunset in Welland after a brave struggle with dementia.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Lidia; children, Michael (Diane) and Rose (Lino); grandchildren, Margaret and Victor (Francisca); and great grandchildren Joshua, Atreus, Annabella and Lidia, as well as his brothers, Gabriel, and John (Rosemary); sisters-in-law Clara (Frank Cimino), Grace Falvo, Ida Marasco and their families. He also had many nieces and nephews, family and friends in Canada, the U.S.A., Australia and Italy, whom he loved. Vittorio was predeceased by his parents Francesco and Rosina (née De Grazia) Falvo; brother Basil and sisters Graziella and Maria and brother-in-law Gino Marasco.
Vittorio was born on November 14, 1934 in Decollatura: a village in the province of Catanzaro in Calabria, Italy. As a young man, he apprenticed as a cobbler, tailor and carpenter before finally choosing to become a bricklayer. He loved music, learned to play the mandolin, and played in his village’s marching band. At age 20, Vittorio left Italy to pursue work in Switzerland before emigrating to Canada in 1958. In Canada, he worked as a bricklayer, and later became maintenance manager for the Rose City Plaza.
Vittorio made many sacrifices to provide for his family. His character instilled honesty, discipline and a very strong work ethic in his children. Vittorio loved to travel. He took his family on road trips to Canada and the U.S. and particularly enjoyed visiting relatives in Conneticut USA, Italy and Australia. Vittorio was a highly skilled tradesperson. He took pride in his work and was often called upon by family and friends for emergency repairs and restoration. His legacy remains in the many things he has so thoughtfully restored and built.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff and caregivers at Woodlands of Sunset for their compassionate care and family support.
