Obituary of Bernard John MacDonald
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Bernard MacDonald, on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at the age of 73.
Bernard is lovingly remembered by his wife, Aline MacDonald (née Gauthier), with whom he enjoyed a beautiful marriage for 45 years. He was a cherished father to Andrew (Patricia) and a devoted papa to his granddaughter, Daphne. Bernard is also survived by his dear siblings: Jim (Marci), Father Stuart MacDonald, and Eileen Karner (late Ross). He holds a special place in the hearts of his many in-laws: Bob (Liz), Ray (Lori), Guylaine (late Robert) and the late Norm (Sue), as well as his nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by his loving parents, Neïl and Audrey MacDonald (née Campbell).
He dedicated 50 years to the school board, where he made a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues. Bernard’s passion was building model trucks, finding joy in the intricate details and craftsmanship. As a devoted fan, he spent many evenings cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs, celebrating their victories and sharing the highs and lows of the game with family and friends. His enthusiasm for life and the connections he fostered will be remembered by all who knew him.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 827 East Main St., Welland. A funeral mass will be held at Saints Peter & Paul Parish, 300 Chaffey St., Welland, on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Welland & District Humane Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.
