SMART, Richard Arthur
Rick passed away peacefully at home on August 24, 2024. Born on December 3,1943, in Welland. Beloved husband and best friend of Beverley (née Horvath) for 59 years. Loving father of David (Karen) of Waterloo, Duane and Darrin of Welland. Special Grampa of Meagan (Jarrett), Ryan and Victoria. Cherished brother of Elizabeth Smart of Montreal, and Sister Annette Smart of Casselman, ON. Rick will be missed by his brother-in-law Edward Horvath of St. Catharines, as well as many extended family members, friends and neighbours. Predeceased by his parents Fred and Gemma Smart.
Rick dedicated 35 years of service to TRW/THK before his retirement. He was actively involved as the Treasurer of the Old Guard for many years. Rick loved playing baseball for the Welland Macs and the Legends and hanging out at Burgar Park. In his younger years, he played Goalie for the Teepees and French Oldtimers.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm. A funeral service in celebration of Rick’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at 11am in the funeral home chapel. Inurnment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Hope Centre or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
