Obituary of Roger Dallaire
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our devoted father, Roger Dallaire, on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at the Welland Hospital, at the age of 90.
Roger was the beloved husband of the late Micheline Dallaire (née Paré), with whom he shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. He was a loving father to Michel (Gilles Léger) and Roch (Lisa Small), and a proud grandfather to Matthew.
He was the youngest of seven children born to the late Aimé and Lydia Dallaire. Roger was predeceased by his sister Monique (late Nick Kobzey), and by his brother Claude, who passed away tragically at the age of three. He was also predeceased by his brothers Paul (late Phyllis), Guy (late Marguerite), Marcel (late Marie-André and late Reina), and Jules (Marianne), his brother-in-law Jean-Claude Paré (late Alice), and his sister-in-law Gaetane (René Lauzon). Roger was the cherished son-in-law of the late Alfred and Maria Paré, whom he lovingly supported and cared for in their later years.
He is survived by his brother-in-law Muriel (Max) Paré (late Hélène and late Margaret) and his sister-in-law Gisèle Voitsidis (late Angelo), who served as his “angel on earth”, both before and after his move to Seasons Retirement Home.
Born in St-Damien-de-Buckland, Québec, on July 12, 1935, Roger moved to Welland in 1943. He attended primary school in Welland before pursuing further education at private colleges in Québec. He later attended the University of Ottawa, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1957, before attending Teachers’ College in Toronto. This led to a dedicated 32-year career in education, which culminated at École Secondaire Confédération, where he retired in 1989.
Throughout his life in Welland, Roger was deeply committed to the French community. He was an active member of La Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste and a co-founder of La Caisse de Décès, which he managed for over 20 years. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Caisse Populaire for more than two decades and contributed to the provincial board of La Fédération des Caisses Populaires de l’Ontario for over 3 years. In addition, he was a proud member of Club Richelieu Welland for 24 years and an original board member of Club Champlain.
Roger moved to Seasons Retirement Home on November 1, 2018, where he resided until his passing. Over the years, he built countless meaningful friendships and will be remembered for his dedication to family, community, and education.
