Obituary of Susan McAninch

With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Susan McAninch, on March 21, 2026, at the age of 99, at the Welland Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.  Born on December 6, 1926, in the charming village of Lennoxtown, Scotland, Susan’s journey through life was one marked by love, resilience, and dedication to her family and community.

Susan was the cherished wife of the late Frank McAninch, with whom she shared a life filled with love and laughter. Together, they nurtured a family that would grow to become her legacy. She was the devoted mother of James McAninch and his wife Betty, John McAninch, and Mary McAninch, as well as a daughter by heart, Rose Carusetta. Her nurturing spirit extended into her role as a grandmother, where she was affectionately known as “Nana” to her four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored beyond measure.

A beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews both in Canada and her native Scotland, Susan’s family ties extended across oceans, reflecting her deep commitment to those she loved. Her home was always a haven of comfort and hospitality, where stored were shared, and laughter was abundant.

Susan was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 4 Ladies Auxiliary, where she dedicated many years in service to her community, embodying the spirit of camaraderie and support. Her involvement was a testament to her unwavering dedication to uplifting others and contributing to meaningful causes.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and nurses at the Welland Hospital for their kindness and compassion during Susan’s final hours. A special thank you is also extended to Susan’s granddaughter, Kristy, for her lifetime of love and support, a bond that was both profound and cherished.

Susan’s life was a tapestry of cherished memories and enduring love. Her legacy is one of strength, kindness, and an unyielding devotion to family and community. She leaves behind a world that is better for having had her in it and hearts that are fuller because of her love.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTER, 827 East Main St., Welland, ON. A private family service will be held to honor Susan’s remarkable life.

As we bid farewell to Susan, we do so with gratitude for the time shared and the love she so generously gave. Her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace, reunited with Frank, and forever watching over her cherished family from above.
