Obituary of Nicholas Hominuk

Nicholas Hominuk- 1941-2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Nicholas “Nick” Hominuk, surrounded by his loving family, at Northland Pointe Long Term Care Home on Saturday February 7, 2026 at the age of 84.

Nick was devoted to his beloved wife, Barbara, the love of his life and sweetheart of nearly 60 years. 

He will be forever cherished by his beloved children, Andrea (Marc) and Chris (Jen), and was a devoted and loving Grandpa to Sophie and Nolan, with whom he shared countless treasured memories.

Nick will be lovingly remembered by his siblings David (Nijole), Rick (Trish) and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Linda and Rick Puszczalowski, as well as his many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Predeceased by his parents, Nicholas Sr. and Olga Hominuk. 

Nick proudly served for over 30 years and retired as a Fire Captain with the Welland Fire Department. As a talented athlete, Nick was honoured for his achievements with induction into the Welland Sports Wall of fame for his time with the Welland Merchants Ice Hockey team. He played for over 25 years with the Niagara Regional Oldtimers. Nick was a dear friend to Bill W. He also loved spending time year-round on the lake fishing.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the compassionate and dedicated staff at Northland Pointe for their exceptional care.

The Hominuk family will receive relatives and friends at the Welland Funeral Home, Cremation and Reception Centre, 827 East Main Street, Welland, on Friday, February 13, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m. A Chapel Service will be held on Saturday, February 14, in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m.

If desired, donations may be made to Northland Pointe in honour of Nick would be appreciated by the family.
