Obituary of Estelle "Pat" Asselin
With grieving hearts, we announce that Estelle 'Pat' Asselin passed peacefully with family by her side on December 30th, 2025 at the age of 86.
Estelle is greatly missed by Robert, her husband of 68 years. Deeply mourned and forever in the hearts of her children Robin, Brenda and Dennis along with her grandchildren Brandon and Dillon Jagersky; Jared and Nathan Asselin. She is lovingly remembered by her brother Victor Holmes (Rose) and dear sister-in-law Helen Holmes (Claude). She was predeceased by her parents David and Irene Holmes as well as siblings Johnny, Emile, Yvon and Claude Holmes; Anita Boutin and Dolores Fournier.
Born in Timmins, Estelle spent most of her life in the Niagara region. She raised her children in Welland and was a resident for over 70 years. She cherished family -- all family regardless if immediate, extended, blended, you were treasured! She found great joy in relationships and thoroughly revelled in sharing her love of sports and table games with her friends and family. Whether challenging her grandchildren in their younger years to baseball and soccer matches then later on with marbles, billiards, cards or board games; she left us with an abundance of special times to reminisce over. She was always a willing grandchild-sitter and not to forget pet-sitter, sharing her love with every furry friend we brought home -- and there were numerous!
For many years Estelle was a jewelry consultant and delighted in engaging with people; especially if it meant making them laugh! She had a passion for architecture, and along with her husband Robert, designed numerous houses. Rather than hiring a builder, they contracted everything on their own, supervising every aspect and detail. She loved to paint houses with no fear of heights nor complex projects. Those who knew her will also fondly remember her affection for music. Despite her admitted lack of rhythm or musicality, she was the first to join you on the dance floor and always having the best time. Of course we will never forget the utter exuberance at her 80th surprise birthday party where none other than the best Elvis impersonator performed. Though she suffered for years with dementia, she held that remembrance and retold it at every chance with the same glee. A most wonderful memory for us.
In accordance with Estelle's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on May 9th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 827 East Main St., Welland, followed by a chapel service at 11:00 a.m. The Rite of Committal will ensue at Holy Cross Cemetery. Relatives and friends are also invited to celebrate her life at the Fonthill Royal Canadian Legion at 1:00 p.m. (141 Hwy 20) following the internment. In lieu of flowers, donations in Estelle's name to the Alzheimer's Association or the Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.
Those we love don't go away, they are in our hearts every day, unseen, unheard yet still loved, still missed and very dear
