Pierrette was my next-door neighbour, but in so many ways she felt like family. She was a constant and comforting presence in my life from childhood through young adulthood, someone whose kindness quietly shaped who I became. As a child, I often went to church with her on Sundays, followed by Sunday school; a simple routine that felt special because it was shared with her. Some Sundays included breakfast with Pierrette and Roy, where warmth, laughter and a sense of belonging were always served along with the meal. Pierrette had a rare gift for listening. She made you feel seen and heard, no matter your age or worries. Her cheerful laugh could lift any moment, and her beautiful smile carried a reassurance that everything would be okay. She taught me without ever trying to teach the power of gentleness, patience and steady love. As the saying goes, "People may forget what you said or what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel." Pierrette made me feel safe, valued and cared for, and that is a gift I will carry with me always.
