Obituary of Gerry Holmes

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerard “Gerry” Holmes, who passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, at the age of 85—just five days before his 86th birthday.

Gerry will be lovingly remembered by his four children: Monique (Denis Gagnon), Ron (Tammy Guerard), Erika (Chad Christian), and Thrush Holmes. He was a proud and devoted Pépère to his seven grandchildren: Chantal (Matt), Patrick (Mary), Sam (Koren), Matt (Jenna), Brielle, Beau, and Duke. He was also a joyful great-grandfather to Liam, Ruby, and Penny. Family meant everything to him, and he never missed an opportunity to share his love.

Throughout his career as an educator, Gerry touched countless lives with his charismatic and welcoming nature. He loved connecting with people, and left a positive impression on everyone he met. In his retirement years, Gerry poured his energy into the things he loved most. He could spend hours crafting with wood or working on a project outside, always happiest when building something with his hands. He loved enjoying meals with family and friends around the table—especially for lobster—and there was almost always Acadian music playing somewhere nearby.

Gerry will be remembered most for his kindness, his ability to make everyone feel welcome, and the way he brought people together. His laughter, generosity, and spirit of connection will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Welland Funeral Home, 827 East Main Street, Welland, ON, on Saturday, November 22. Visitation will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a short service from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
