Obituary of Gary Edward Lancop
Gary Edward Joseph Lancop passed away on July 4th, 2025, with his family at his side, following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Gary faced his illness as he lived his life—head-on, with strength, humour, and heart. When he was first diagnosed, he told us, “I’m going to fight this, you know.” And fight it he did, Gary was still showing us what was possible well into his 80’s.
Gary was the grand optimist, an expert at rolling with the punches. In business, he was professional, driven, and focused. Gary’s career in the interior design and textiles industry spanned over six decades, working in Toronto, Edmonton, and Windsor. Gary loved his work, but his true passion was always the people he met along the way. Gary thrived in social settings and was always up for a good conversation. His warmth, humour, and easygoing nature made him a joy to work with, building lasting connections wherever he went.
When we were kids we could feel Gary’s positive energy surrounding us at all times, endlessly supportive, he truly wanted the best for his family. Gary possessed an enduring youthfulness about him that was infectious to those around him. Some of our best memories were made during road trips in one of Dad’s many cars, music turned up as we made our way to Windsor to visit family. You could feel his excitement once we hit the road.
Gary leaves behind his two sons, Aaron Lancop (spouse Christina Zahaj) and Brad Lancop (spouse Lindsey Loewen), as well as his beloved grandchildren, Andrew and Viktoria Lancop. Gary is also survived by his siblings Helen Patterson Woltz, Louise Walmsley, Adrian Lancop (spouse Routhanne), and many loving nieces and nephews.
Gary’s wishes were to be cremated and remain close to family, a Celebration of Life honouring Gary will be held in the coming months in the Windsor area. If you wish to be added to the contact list please send an email to brad.lancop@gmail.com.
The family wishes to acknowledge Barbara Lancop and Sharon Write for their years of dedication to Gary’s in home care.
The family also wishes to thank all of the staff at Royal Rose Place in Welland for taking such good care of Gary and making him feel at home for over three and a half years. Royal Rose Place gave us the gift of time with Gary and for that we are eternally grateful.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Parkinson Canada at https://donate.parkinson.ca
Somewhere up there, Dad’s driving a nice car, windows down, blasting Boney M.
Drive on pops and watch over us,
