Obituary of Peter John Wassill
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Peter John Wassill, danced his way into Heaven, on Wednesday, June 25th, 2025, at the age of 73. Most likely while doing a Polish Polka and a Macedonian 2-step, guitar in hand, a smile on his face and joy in his heart. He is home with his Lord now and we know the celebration has already begun! Survived by his loving wife Lynn, his children Paula (Rob), Aimee (Steve), Melissa, Kevin (Natalie) and Susan (Nico). He will be greatly missed by his sister Bella (Kelly) along with their daughter Victoria (Chris). Peter was blessed with many grandchildren, Logan, Sofia, Jackson, Joshua, Olivia, Georgia and Madden. He will be dearly missed by his beloved brother-in-law, Michel (Jay) as well as many friends and co-workers near and far. Predeceased by his parents Sofia Wassill and Edmund Poplawski.
Peter's faith was his strength throughout his life. He had a deep love for the natural world- he found peace among the birds, joy in the rustle of woodland creatures, and contentment with a fishing rod in hand. Music was the language of his soul, and his guitars were never far from reach, always ready to play the soundtrack of his life. He had a sharp mind and a love for strategy, often found quietly immersed in a game of chess. A lifelong collector, he took pride in his treasured sports cards, each one holding a story. Peter lived his faith in action- volunteering through the Gideons, mentoring youth in Scouts, and offering hope and compassion to those at the local jail. His quiet strength and steady presence made a difference in ways words often cannot capture.
We would like to extend thanks to nurse Hannah and staff at the Welland hospital.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 827 East Main St., Welland, ON. Keeping with Peter’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held with family and friends at a later date. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be directed to a charity of your choice.
He is now casting his line in Heaven's waters, pipe in hand and a glass of brandy by his side.
