Raimund (Ray) Radke- 1928-2025
We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Raimund Radke on June 14, 2025. Known to many simply as Ray, he was a man of steadfast principles, a warm heart, and a genuine love for the outdoors. Whether tending to his garden or out on the golf course, Ray brought quiet joy and sincerity to every day- and was always generous with his famously heartfelt hugs.
Born in Ukraine, Roy was the third of eleven children and the proud son of a farmer. In 1954 he journeyed to Canada with one of his brothers, arriving without speaking a single word of English. He began his life here working on a farm near the airport, eventually building a career in the dairy and milk industry, where Ray remained until his retirement.
In 1954 Ray married Lore Kurrle who sadly passed away in 1994. Life led him to love again when he met Christina (Tina) Drummond through a mutual friend. Together for the past 30 years, Ray and Tina made their home first in Toronto and later in Fonthill where they moved eight years ago.
Ray was a passionate golfer for over 60 years, achieving an incredible eight holes-in-one. He was equally devoted to gardening- nothing made him happier than sharing his homegrown tomatoes and vegetables with friends and neighbours.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Welland Funeral Home, Cremation and Reception Centre, 827 East Main St., Welland. In accordance with Ray’s quiet nature, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice or perhaps in keeping with Ray’s love of nature, friends and family members are encouraged to plant a tree or shrub in Ray’s memory.
Ray’s warmth, strength and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
