Obituary of Raymond Joseph Gilles Fournier

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Raymond Fournier, who left us peacefully on May 22, 2025, at the age of 87.

Born on June 7, 1937, to George Fournier and Marie-Anne Pelchat, Raymond was one of thirteen children and part of a large, close-knit family. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Carolyne, and by his siblings Gilberte Viger (Late Joseph), Gisele Blais (Late Leonel), Emeric (Late Monique), Fernand (Late Marthe), Jean Paul (Yvette), Real (Late Claudette), Noela Gosselin (Late Jerry), and Jules (Gisele). He is survived by his sisters Marielle Coring (Late Jerry) and Marie-Anne Dallaire (Late Jules), his devoted partner Louise Venne, his many nieces and nephews, as well as his four stepchildren Thérèse Calovini (Frank), Louis Lucatra (Beverly), Lynda Ciechoski (Thomas) and Dawn Carr (Robert), with eleven step-grandchildren and numerous step great-grandchildren. 

Raymond’s life was marked by quiet strength, loyalty, and love for family. He held deep pride in his roots and carried with him the values instilled by his parents—a respect for hard work, a sense of humor, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. Whether through conversation, companionship, or simply his presence, Raymond left a lasting impression on all who had the honor of knowing him.

A visitation will be held on what would have been his 88th birthday, on June 7, 2025, at THE WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 827 Main Street East, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Following the visitation, Raymond will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to The Hospital for Sick Children would be greatly appreciated by the family. 

He will be remembered with affection and gratitude, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
