It is with heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of William Henry Esler (Bill) on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at the age of 78, while surrounded by the love of his family.
Bill was the devoted husband of Peggy for 58 wonderful years, a proud and loving father to his only daughter Patty (Curtis), cherished grandfather to Lexie & Jacob, and adoring great-grandfather to Will.
He will be deeply missed by many extended family members and countless friends who became like family over the years. Bill found joy in the simple pleasures of life—playing golf, going on cruises, cheering for his beloved Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Blue Jays, and Dallas Cowboys, and unwinding in his garage. When the door was open, he welcomed friends and neighbours to join him, often sharing laughs, a cold beer and spirited debates—especially when it came to his daughter's puzzling loyalty, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Miami Dolphins.
In keeping with Bill’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no public memorial. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Welland Funeral Home, Cremation and Reception Centre, 827 East Main Street, Welland.
Family kindly invites all who knew Bill to pause for a quiet moment of reflection—to share a smile, a story, or a memory that celebrates the remarkable man he was.
