Obituary of Maureen Elizabeth Roy
Surrounded by love, Maureen Roy (O’Sullivan) passed away at the St. Catharine’s Hospital on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 in her seventy ninth year.
Maureen was the oldest child of William O’Sullivan and Betty (O’Sullivan) Woods and the absolute best friend and favorite sister of her only brother Tim (2022). She was predeceased by her husband Andy Roy (2016) and her stepfather John Stewart Wood.
Maureen will be lovingly remembered by her partner Roy Csordas and his family, her cousins, her four godchildren, her stepsisters and brothers, and by her many nieces and nephews. She leaves to mourn her passing the many life-long friends she treasures and her adopted family within the Association for Community Living.
Maureen graduated from Notre Dame College School in Welland and Hamilton’s Teachers’ College. She taught with the Niagara Catholic District School Board and was an Educational Assistant with the District School Board of Niagara. Maureen worked in the Welland Public Library for a number of years as well. Her most cherished life experience however were the many years she spent as a volunteer and board member for the Association for Community Living on the local, provincial and national levels.
When Maureen wasn’t reaching out to support and lift up others, she enjoyed long walks along the canal or with her retreat ladies, bike rides exploring favourite trails in Ontario and of course singing with friends or attending theatrical performances or musical concerts especially in the outdoor venues. She loved her travels especially her trip to Ireland, her cherished homeland. She always enjoyed a good book and of course hanging out with friends over lunch or dinner or just getting together over a glass of wine.
The family will receive family and friends to celebrate Maureen's life at the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 827 East Main St. Welland, on Friday May 30, 2025 from 11 a.m.-12:00 p.m. A service in the funeral home chapel will follow. As an expression of sympathy donations may be made to Community Living Welland/Pelham (call Theresa at 905-735-0081 x208) or to a charity of your choice.
“Maureen, may the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.”
