Obituary of Caroline Patricia Lockhart

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Caroline Lockhart (née Johnstone) on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at the Welland Hospital, at the age of 79, after a short hospital stay. Caroline had struggled with dementia for the last few years. Caroline was the devoted wife of Gary Lockhart. She was the loving mother of Angee (Paul), Mike, Doug (Carol), Jeff (Jen), and Kim (Justin). She will be forever remembered by her six beloved grandchildren: Effie, Mina, Rory, Skylar, Max, and Noah, who brought her much joy. She is predeceased by her parents and her brother, Colin.

Caroline was born and raised in the Kitsilano area of Vancouver, BC. Caroline moved to Toronto, ON in 1967 in pursuit of a career working with children and families. Not only did she embark on a career that spanned decades helping others, but she also met the love her of life and married Gary in 1969. Her lifelong commitment to kids and parents carried over three main workplaces: Thistledown Regional Centre in Toronto, FACS in Hamilton & Niagara, and Pathstone Mental Health in Niagara.

Her true joy was her family, but her kindness and support extended to everyone around her. A passionate hockey and dance mom, she traveled, volunteered, and cheered for her five kids. She continued her devotion as champion for her grandchildren's activities.

Loving all things hockey she cheered for the Leafs. Travel became a pastime for Caroline and Gary, who, for decades, criss-crossed North America several times, hitting every province and territory in Canada. Caroline played euchre and enjoyed the occasional casino visit, along with attending hundreds of concerts and plays over the years. She collected many items of her favourite animal - the great Canadian moose - along with several turtles and penguins.

The Lockhart family extends their gratitude to the staff at the St. Catharine’s and the Welland Hospital sites, along with a warm thank you to Dr. Kathryn Janzen in Welland for her years of care. Caroline's enthusiasm for life and loving generosity will be remembered by many, many people. She will be missed, but her memory will be carried by all who knew her. The family sends gratitude and thanks for all the support received.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 827 East Main St., Welland, ON. Following Caroline's wishes, cremation, along with a small family gathering has already taken place.
