We wish to honour a life well lived by Aurèle Laferrière, who peacefully left us on the morning of November 14, 2024, at the age of 99.
Aurèle will be lovingly remembered by his cherished wife, Yvonne (née Roussel), with whom he shared many wonderful years of marriage, celebrating their 74th anniversary in August. He is survived by his six children: Maurice (Solange Tessier), Jocelyne (Ronald Holmes), Estelle (André Beauchamp), Louise (Raymond Dorn), Clément (Annette Digout), and Lorraine (Sean Crowston). He was a proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 22 great-grandchildren. Aurèle was born in northern Ontario to a large family of 11 children, and he is survived by his sisters Isabelle and Martha.
Aurèle and Yvonne were pillars of their francophone community. Together, they participated in the Rouli-Roulant choir and later joined the Vive-la-Joie folk dance group. They were also active members of Club Renaissance and generously volunteered at the Foyer Richelieu, along with other church and community events.
To celebrate Aurèle’s long and full life, the family will receive visitors at the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 827 East Main St., Welland, on Monday, November 25, 2024, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm. The funeral service will take place at Église Sacré-Cœur, 72 Empire St., Welland, on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations to Le Foyer Richelieu would be greatly appreciated by the family.
